I vow each year to continue to learn … to find things that truly work to improve my own and my family’s success. I imagine that you do too.
During the last few years, my quest has been rewarded with both new information and new tools. I look forward to sharing those gifts with you as 2020 kicks off. And I wish you the same amazing results that my friends, family, and clients have enjoyed.

The Gift of Focus
As we come into this new decade, many of us are thinking about our life goals. Consistently taking the right actions over time – clarity and focus -- are required for the achievement of our goals.
Despite having had a TBI and a life full of challenges, I have found over these last few years that focus and clarity have much improved in my life. This gift of clarity and focus has allowed me to put my efforts into that which is most effective and efficient, without being scattered in my attention or distracted by constant rabbit trails.
As you can imagine, I am most excited about the focus improvements in my children. In one year, for instance, my son went from flying drones and crashing most of the time to receiving third place in a regional competition. There was a profound shift just two weeks after he started using our new technology – he came running in saying, “Wow, I can FOCUS! I am not crashing all the time! That new device of ours really works!” I have been so excited to see how many areas of his life have changed. As I will share next week, his teachers, as well as other students' teachers, also saw significant improvement with his focus and participation in class. The ability to maintain flexible, focused attention will improve anyone's overall quality of life.

Science of Focus
Brain hygiene is one of the most important steps to ensure ongoing focus and clarity. And brain hygiene is dependent on high-quality sleep to detoxify the brain. Research by Jeff Iliff has shown that the brain can cleanse itself ONLY during REM and deep sleep. In these states of deep rest, cerebral spinal fluid flowing through the brain picks up waste products created from our daily mental activities. These wastes are then transferred from brain tissue into the micro-vessels which then clear the waste from the body.

This brain cleansing supports mental acuity across your life. In fact, lack of quality sleep can negatively impact memory, cause poor judgment, increase impulsivity, and correlate with many other brain functions and mental health concerns.
